Two explosions rip through the crowd at the finish line of the Boston Marathon

Police say at least three people have died in the twin blasts and over 100 more left wounded.

Some of the injured face amputations.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis says the hunt is on to find out who's responsible.

SOUNDBITE: (English) BOSTON POLICE COMMISSIONER ED DAVIS SAYING:

"This cowardly act will not be taken in stride, we will turn every rock over to find the people who are responsible for this. We are working very closely with my partner Rick DesLauriers. The Boston Police Department is on the scene and has been since this incident happened. There has been a horrendous loss of life. At least three people have died in this event."

The bombing is the worst to hit U.S. soil since security was tightened after the September 11th attacks.

A White House official says it's being handled as an "act of terror".
