Surah Al-Baqarah (Arabic: سورة البقرة, translit. Sūrah al-baqarah, har. 'Female Cow') is the 2nd surah in the Qur'an. This sura consists of 286 verses, 6,221 words, and 25,500 letters and is classified as surah Madaniyah. This surah is the surah with the highest number of verses in the Qur'an. This surah is called al-Baqarah which means Female Cow because in this surah there is a story of slaughtering a female cow that Allah commands the Children of Israel (verses 67-74). This Surah is also named Fustatul Qur'an (the Peak of the Qur'an) because it contains several laws which are not mentioned in other Surahs. Also named surah Alif Lam Mim because the first verse in the surah contains three Arabic letters namely Alif, Lam, and Mim.
