US Border Patrol Officials Under Investigation for Alleged Links to Mexican Tequila Tycoon Following Incriminating Social Media Posts

Two top US Border Patrol officials are under investigation for their relationship with Mexican tequila magnate Francisco Javier González. Photos on social media showed Chief Jason Owens and Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Gloria Chavez partying with González in February at his family's distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. González, the heir to the Don Julio tequila brand, hosted a party for CBP leadership in Laredo, Texas, last July. The officials are accused of failing to disclose contact with a foreign national, as required by their security clearances. González's proposal to create a Border Patrol-branded tequila for the agency's centennial was abandoned following an investigation.
