A 10-foot-long python coiled round a 61-year-old man's neck bringing him to near death until he was rescued in south India.

A labourer named Bhuvanachandran Nair who is native of Perumkulangara area, was working near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on October 15 when at around 11:00am they spotted the python.

The python was spotted while they were working to clear foliage. Eyewitness Sunil Kumar, describing the incident, commented: "Labourers who were part of an MGNREGS team encountered the reptile while clearing thickets on the Kerala Institute of Co-operative Management (KICMA) campus near Neyyar Dam.

"Although they managed to catch hold of it, the python slithered from Mr. Nair’s grip and wound itself around his neck, choking him. The other men, who had the python by its head and tail managed to hold on.

"However it took them several seconds before they could force the snake to let go. Bhuvanachandran Nair escaped from the ordeal with minor injuries. By then, the Forest Department officials had been alerted."

Officials reported that they will release the snake into the deep forest after keeping it under observation for two days.
