AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd in court on murder plot charges

The drummer from Australian rock band AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has been charged with attempting to arrange a murder.

The 60-year-old also faces charges of threatening to kill and drug possession.

Rudd appeared in Tauranga District Court in New Zealand, the country where he has lived for the last 30 years. He was released on bail but banned from contact with anyone involved in the alleged plot.

The names of the intended victims and the would-be hit-man were not released by the judge.

Rudd joined AC/DC in 1974, the year after it started. He was kicked out of the band in 1983 but rejoined in 1994.

However he has not appeared in any of the photos for the promotion of the band’s new album due out next month and there has been speculation he is no longer in the group.
