Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas resigns after top aide Jana Nagyová caught in graft scandal

Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas was forced to resign on Sunday following charges of widespread corruption including graft, spying and even a sex scandal involving his closest aide, Jana Nagyova.

The resignation comes just days after Czech police stormed the homes of senior government officials, finding millions of dollars worth of gold and cash. The arrests include Necas' chief of staff Jana Nagyova, who is also alleged to be having an affair with the Prime Minister.

Those raids included 400 police officers, many of whom were masked, searching a total of 31 houses. It was the largest police sting in Czech Republic in 20 years.

The entire Czech government will now have to step down as all eyes fall to newly elected President Milos Zeman, who will have to decide how he plans to govern until the next elections in 2014.

Necas was known as one of the Czech Republic's few clean politicians.

Nagyova, meanwhile, has been charged with several offenses, including bribing members of parliament and ordering intelligence agents to spy on people including the Prime Minister's wife, Radka.
