The origin of this German group dates back to the late 1960s, more precisely in 1968, when guitarist Peter Hesslein joined the band The Germans Bond, which included keyboardist Peter Hecht and bassist Dieter Homs. With the arrival of the new companion, they decided to adopt the suggestive name Electric Food. Over the next two years, they reconciled rehearsals and the few presentations with other paid activities. Also in this period two new members joined the group: drummer Joachim Reitenbach and vocalist Georg Mavros.
The situation began to improve in 1970, when they signed with the Europa label, which sought to consolidate its name in the growing youth music market and, for that, bet on beginner bands unknown to the vast majority of the public. As they were quite in tune, they quickly locked themselves in the studio and recorded about twelve songs with strong influences from groups that were in evidence in the success charts in the early seventies. Among the tracks appeared a re-recording of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, a good version of the traditional song House of Rising Sun and a cover of George Harrison's Let's Work Together.
The other songs, most composed by guitarist Hesslein, were Hard Rock with clear similarities to the first Deep Purple and Uriah Heep records, performed very competently and with a strong emphasis on keyboards and guitar duets, as in the tracks Hey Down and Tevern (this being the last and perhaps the best moment on the record). Traces of psychedelic music also appeared in the structure of Nosferatu, a climactic instrumental track where the highlight is a lysergic guitar, reminiscent of themes developed by Krautrock groups. Only the vocals left a little to be desired, not keeping pace with the other musicians.
In the same year, they even recorded a new album called Flash, which, like the first, had little repercussion, a fact that was decisive for replacing the vocalist and also for changing the name of the group, aiming to reach a larger audience. With the new singer (John Lawton) and the name of Asterix they went to fight, but that's another story.
