A pop-up library is set up in an abandoned communal bath.

Turkish baths have been used to rejuvenate the body for centuries. Now, someone's figured out a way to rejuvenate minds as well.

A pop-up, temporary library was set up in a communal Turkish bath for both men and women that was abandoned in the early 1900s.

The project was part of the Urban Dreams Festival in Bulgaria. (1,1,1)

The designers of the pop-up library, Studio 8 ½ crafted the temporary library in an effort to exhibit the center’s archives. (2,2,3) Complimenting the rustic quality of the long-empty communal bath, the library has a wooden wall and a planked wood floor. Bookcases are built into the curved wall. (1,2,2)

The lead designer states “The main inspiration for us was actually the building itself. The surrounding space, the centuries of historical layers on the walls, the sun looking from the small windows on the top, even the smell and taste of it.” (2,3,1)

What do you think? Do you like the idea of using a Turkish bath for a library?
