Bikini waxes are said to increase risk of STI's.
Pubic hair removal may be contributing to the increase of a particular sexually transmitted pox virus over the past decade. The infection makes people breakout in water warts.
Shaving or waxing can increase skin irritation, and heightens the risk of exposing skin to the warts.
French doctors investigated the rise in cases of warts being reported and found that out of the 30 cases they studied, 28 had waxed, shaved, or trimmed their pubic hair.
The study concluded that a major contributor to the spread of the water warts could be “hair removal, especially shaving.”
Although the French study found that shaving pubic hair may increase the risk of water warts, pubic hair lice, known as crabs, have been virtually eradicated by people shaving or waxing down there.
A medical entomologist from Cambridge said: “Pubic grooming has led to a severe depletion of crab louse populations. Add to that other aspects of body hair depilation, and you can see an environmental disaster in the making for this species.”
According to one report, a sex health clinic in Australia hasn't seen a case of a woman with crabs since 2008.
