Proposal for Dogs to Wear Life Jackets Near Pools

A Colorado proposal states that dogs must wear life jackets while near a pool.

Any pet lover knows that owning a dog is similar to having a child.

Well, the Pet Animal Care Facilities Program, which is a department of the Colorado Department of Agriculture is hoping that a new proposal aimed towards the safety of swimming dogs will pass.

The proposal states that “every dog must wear a personal flotation device while in or while having access to a pool area whenever the pool water is deeper than the height of the dog at its shoulder.”

The proposal also cites that at least one lifeguard needs to be present to watch over the swimming canines. Owners of dog care facilities aren’t exactly happy, believing the costs of business operation will skyrocket if the rule is passed.

This isn’t the only unusual proposal pertaining to pets. Recently, officials in Ohio imposed a ban on feeding pets outdoors at night.
The new ordinance makes the act a minor misdemeanor, even on a pet owner's own private property. According to the Barberton mayor, the new ban is in place solely to help domesticated animals, as stray food attracts pesky rodents a night.
