But in an unusual case as reported by Times of India, a woman decided to hire contract killers to take the lives of her family members because they did not want her to marry her boyfriend.
The incident took place in the state of Punjab in Northern India.
Fortunately for the girl's parents and brother, they survived couple of attempts by the hired killers in their house. However, the attackers killed the domestic help during one of the attempts.
All the accused are under arrest, included the girl, who is just 19.
In the vast majority of such scenarios, however, a woman is the victim who suffers at the hands of male family members.
In June of this year, in Western India, a man toted a severed head in one hand and a sword in the other while walking through a local Indian village. According to CNN, the man had cut off the head of his own daughter citing “indecent behavior”, as he believed her to be acting inappropriately with other males.
