Sure, stealing is wrong, but it seems even worse when someone takes an innocent pet away from a safe environment. Last month, two crooks walked into a Long Island pet store and snatched a purebred pup. Video surveillance showed one of the men distracting the clerk while the other thief attempted to open the cash register. The machine wouldn’t budge, so the man picked up a 10-week-old Pomeranian puppy, priced at $1,000, put the animal in his pants and ran out of the shop. The owner has offered a $500 reward for information along with an arrest and speaks worriedly about the puppy’s safety.

Earlier this month, police arrested yet another puppy thief in California. A 53-year-old man was shown on surveillance holding a ‘puggle’ valued at $1,000 and walking out of the store. The man’s picture was distributed throughout the media and the dog was microchipped and marked as stolen. The robber shockingly decided to return the stolen pooch to the store, where he was arrested and held on $20,000 bail.
