Vast Majority of Jobs After Recession Went to Men - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

80 percent of the over two and a half million jobs that have been created since the national recession ended in 2009 have been given to men. Male dominated manufacturing jobs suffered massive layoffs, but more jobs also surfaced in that field when the recession ended, and female dominated public sector employment positions have had to cope with budget cuts and layoffs. According to ABC News, “since the end of the recession in July 2009, men have gained 600,000 jobs while women have lost 300,000 jobs.” In terms of finding employment with a new company, while discrimination is technically illegal, misconceptions about the disparities between male and female employees work in favor of men. Women tend to do more housework, and many companies are hesitant to hire women for jobs that require traveling or overtime hours.

Up to 30 percent of the family’s income is now being supported from the wife’s paycheck, and in the 2011 fiscal year more men than women have filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission based on gender discrimination for the first time this decade. This could be due to more men applying for jobs in women dominated work fields.
