Tensions rise as West Bank mosque vandalised

An attack on a mosque in the occupied West Bank was left scorched and vanadalised with the words "the war has begun" scrawled on the wall in Hebrew.

Locals accuse nearby Israeli settlers of the attack which took place on Monday night. The mosque is in an area where there are Israeli settlements near Palestinian villages.

The Israeli supreme court has ruled that some buildings nearby are on private Palestinian land, and the settlers inside must leave.

Some hard-liners from the Jewish community are furious, and are threatening to oppose the up-coming evacuations when troops arrive.

Al Jazeera's Jane Ferguson reports from the Occupied West Bank.
