Mayor brings 'urban beaches' to Mexico City

Despite being renowned around the world, Mexico's beaches are a luxury that many ordinary people are unable to enjoy.

As a result, Marcelo Ebrard, the mayor of Mexico City, the country's landlocked capital, has now brought "urban beaches" to the masses.

Costing $600,000, and following the introduction of an ice rink, skate park and new bike paths, the initiative has been branded by some as a ploy to gain public support for Ebrard's candidacy in next year's presidential election.
