Red shirt supporters mark anniversary in Bangkok

STORY: Red shirt supporters gathered in Bangkok central shopping area on Saturday (May 19) to mark the second anniversary of a military crackdown against their movement in 2010.

Thousands from nationwide, the members of United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship(UDD), known as Red shirts, gathered to perform Buddhist rites and hold a candle light vigil to remember their slain comrades and listen to their leaders.

The pro-Thaksin movement, had lain siege this shopping area for three months putting pressure for their demand of previous government to resign and to hold general election.

The military decided to launch final crackdown, wiped out the protesters from the area to put the siege to an end on May 19, 2012.
