Big voiced songstress Adele scooped two trophies at the Ivor Novello song writing awards.

She was named songwriter of the year and her 'Rolling in the Deep' was the most performed work of 2011.

The song has helped the north London singer become the world's biggest pop star.

Despite nabbing her eighth prize of this year, Adele was humble as she collected her award for most performed work.

SOUNDBITE singer Adele, saying:

"I knew I had to release it first but I really didn't think it was going to do anything anywhere so the fact that it has is just magical."

The gong for best songwriter was presented by Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox, who told Adele she's bigger than fashion.

SOUNDBITE singer Annie Lennox, saying:

"She doesn't need talent shows and competitions and hype and spin and bullshit. This is the real deal. This is what artists are truly about and that is why I am so proud of you -- and baby you're bigger than fashion."

Adele said she had been heavily influenced by the reviews of her first album.

SOUNDBITE singer Adele, saying:

"But all the critics -- I read my reviews on my first album, like a dickhead, you shouldn't do that. Any budding artists don't read all the press about you, it's a mistake. But the main thing was that my songs weren't as good as my voice which I really appreciated, and I took it on board and now I am winning songwriter of the year for my second album so thank you very very, much."

Take That's Gary Barlow was grateful he didn't have to go head-to-head with the mighty Adele.

SOUNDBITE Take That singer Gary Barlow, saying:

"When we heard she wasn't in our category we thought we've got a chance here."

The Ivor Novello annual awards are in their 57th year and are highly regarded by both songwriters and composers.

Other winners were PJ Harvey for best album and Spandau Ballet's Gary Kemp for his outstanding song collection.
