Johnny Depp and co-star Michelle Pfeiffer joined castmates Monday night (May 07) on an appropriate shade of "black carpet" for the Los Angeles premiere of the meldramatic/comedy vampire film, "Dark Shadows."

The normally super-cool actor gushed on about the original daytime TV soap opera of the same name that sets the theme and characters of the current silver screen version.

SOUNDBITE Johnny Depp saying (English):

"Well, it was just the idea of bringing that feeling, That feeling that we all had, that excitement that we all had that forced us to run home and watch that show that was unlike anything else. There was nothing like it what's so ever."

Directed by Tim Burton, Depp plays Barnabas Collins in "Dark Shadows," a rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy of the 18th century, until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard, played by actress Eva Green. A witch in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death-turning him into a vampire. Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time.

The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter.

"Dark Shadows" opens on May 11.
