Guinea-Bissau's interim President Raimundo Pereira (yellow shirt) and ex-premier and presidential election front-runner Carlos Gomes Junior are welcomed in Ivory Coast after their release by Guinea-Bissau troops earlier on Friday (April 27).
The two leading politicians were arrested in a coup on April 12.
They were freed a day after the West Africa regional bloc ECOWAS announced the deployment of a force to secure a return to civilian rule, and threatened sanctions against soldiers who blocked the process.
Guinea-Bissau's military said it would accept the planned deployment of more than 600 troops, possibly an indication that the junta is looking for a good negotiating ground and potentially a return to constitutional rule, according to ministers in Abidjan.
The coup happened half way through elections in the former Portuguese colony which has endured decades of instability.
It has also become a transit centre for Latin American cocaine mostly destined for Europe.
