Argentinians mark Falklands war anniversary

Argentine war veterans and their families commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war against the British.

On April 2, 1982, Argentina's military government invaded the Falkland Islands.

Their soldiers were eventually repelled by the British forces, but not before 649 Argentinean and 255 British military personnel, were killed.

Many say the dusk ceremony is about rekindling patriotism.

SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ALEJANDRO CANO, FALKLAND WAR VETERAN, SAYING:

"To be here in the south, it's a different sensation. It's like you feel more Argentine and it reminds you of something that we felt at that time like the climate and the people. The people here are marvelous because they feel for themselves what I lived through."

Three decades later, Argentina and Britain are still disputing ownership of the islands and diplomatic relations are at their coldest since the conflict.

The row is being fueled by lucrative offshore oil discoveries near the disputed islands.
