In my "metal years" (even new metal), I never liked female vocalists. Most of those I heard, used that opera-like voice, I just didn't like that, plus low male voice, with its innate, hmmm, "brutality" fits metal better.
Granted, The Gathering with Anneke isn't metal, but nonetheless it's ~rock, and sung with normal voice.
