Take a tour of Town of Mystras in Mystras, Greece – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Set into a hillside near the Greek town of Sparti is the now-abandoned town of Mystras.

This medieval city was inhabited until the 1830s, when the few remaining inhabitants moved to the newer town, Sparti.

Mystras was first established in the mid-thirteenth century by the Byzantines following the Fourth Crusade.

Now the town is essentially a large open-air museum, free for visitors to wander and explore at will.

Many of the buildings remain recognizable as what they once were: a church here, a house there.

Near the top of Mystras is a large palace that once was home to the rulers of the town.
