Four people are dead and 18 people injured after a string of explosions at a factory in Taiwan. Authorities are looking into the cause of the fire.

Explosions at an illegal paper money factory have left four people dead and some 18 injured in New Taipei City in northern Taiwan on Friday.

A huge fire engulfed the three story corrugated-iron factory and then triggered a string of explosions in the surrounding area.

25 cars were burned and windows of nearby buildings were shattered.

The factory makes paper money that is used in religious ceremonies like Tomb Sweeping Day, when they're burned in honor of dead ancestors.

Authorities are conducting an official investigation into the cause of fire.

Initial investigations suggest the blaze and explosions might have been caused by firecrackers and fireworks stored in the factory.
