Take a tour of Baku Government House in Baku, Azerbaijan – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Facing Baku Boulevard on the seafront of Azerbaijan, is the mighty Baku Government House.

Constructed from 1936-1952, this mammoth structure took sixteen years to build under Soviet authority.

Shortly after opening, the land at its entrance became known as Lenin's Square and showcases a commemorative statue of Vladimir Lenin.

The monument was later removed after the massacre of Black January in the winter of 1990 after Baku's Armenian population fought anti-Armenian Soviet communists.

The square’s name was then changed accordingly to Freedom Square.

After many renovations were made to the building it was opened to visitors as one of Azerbaijan's greatest attractions.
