Nicholas Cage thrilled to be playing a knight.

Actor Nicholas Cage stars as a knight Crusader in the supernatural thriller Season Of The Witch.

In the movie Cage plays a knight: "I've never done anything like that before, although in my mind I've been playing a knight ever since I was five years old. I don't know why it took this long to get here, but I'm glad it finally happened."

The film's story centers around a young girl, played by Brit actress Claire Foy, who church elders believe is a witch and responsible for the plague, so they command Cage to transport her to a remote monastery, where monks will perform an ancient ritual to rid the land of her curse.

Actress Foy said that filming the movie was hard work: "I remember getting lots of cuts and bruises from actually being inside the wagon because the bars were quite sharp, especially when your hands are freezing cold, and I'd be grabbing hold of the bars and ripping my hands to shreds, but it was all worth it in the end."

Season Of The Witch hits UK cinema screens from January 7.
