Iraqi maqam emerges as casualty of modernity and war

Traditional Iraqi Maqam is a form of music that has held a proud place in its country's culture for centuries. Following the US led invasion in 2003, many musicians fled the ensuing violence, leaving many the capital empty of its sound. A few remaining groups however, and some eager students from Baghdad's music school are battling to prevent it disappearing for good. Duration: 02:01.
