Brits win big at the International Emmy Awards

Simon Cowell has led a British invasion at the International Emmy Awards in New York.

The music mogul won an honorary award for his work in the television business, and collected it with trademark candour.

"Whoever said fame, money, success would destroy you - completely wrong. Bring it on, genuinely," he told the audience. "My life was boring before I went on TV and see now I've got lots of friends."

It was a great night for UK talent, as Brits took home five awards, including acting gongs for Bob Hoskins and Helena Bonham Carter.

Acclaimed UK show The Street also won best drama series, and Shaun the Sheep won for best children's programming.
