Hip-hop star and prospective candidate for Hatian president Wyclef Jean hides out in his home after death threats telling him to leave the country.

[Wyclef Jean, Music Artist and Unofficial Presidential Candidate for Haiti]:
"We know that the situation that we have embarked in, you know. Death threats comes with the territory, but beyond that, it's not about all those negative information you're receiving."

During a recent concert in Belgium, Jean may have foreshadowed the threats on his life in a song.

But back home he seemed more concerned with the legal process of gaining approval to run for president.

He says he and his lawyers are confident they have submitted all the proper papers.

His international status and popularity, particularly among young people who make up a majority of the country, could put him into power if he can run.

[Wyclef Jean, Music Artist and Unofficial Presidential Candidate for Haiti]:
"It is very overwhelming, starting with the youth of Haiti, which is over 50 percent of the population. So despite what you hear, I am on the ground, you are on the ground, and you know the Fas, a Fas movement has taken over the entire country."

The three-time Grammy award-winner says he will put his music career on hold if his candidacy is approved.
