Jakarta Bids Final Farewell to Former President

Thousands came to pay their final respects to former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid. He passed away on Wednesday at the age of 69.
Thousands gathered at the Jakarta residence of former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, to pay their final respects to the man who served as Indonesia's fourth president between 1999 and 2001.
Wahid died in hospital in intensive care on Wednesday at the age of 69, after problems with his respiratory system and blood vessels.
His coffin will be transported to his hometown in East Java, where a funeral will be held.
One supporter said she remembered Wahid as a man of principle.

"I hope in the future there will be another leader like him. He united this country, he is one of the few leaders who could unite
Indonesia."
Others said they admired him for his sincerity.
[Muhammad Ali, Supporter]:
"He was an honest and sincere leader, he struggled wholeheartedly for this country."
As president, Wahid struggled to deal with Indonesia's broken economy and his leadership came to an end after he was sacked by parliament and replaced by Megawati.
