Seal reproduction is increasingly difficult in the Gulf of Finland near St. Petersburg. As the maritime ice is rapidly melting, seal mothers are forced to bring up their pups close to human settlement. Without sufficient shelter, they are easy prey for carnivores, dogs, and humans.
