Scott Liebler's Fatal Crash @ Road Atlanta 1989

On lap one of Race 15 of the SCCA National Championship Runoffs Scott Liebler's Formula Atlantic Martini made contact with another car near the Nissan Bridge and became airborne, flipping several times and snapping its roll hoop off. The car came to rest on its wheels some 100 yards from the point where initial contact occurred. Liebler was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and placed on full life support, but he passed away the following night of an edema. Liebler was the first car fatality in the history of the then-twenty-year old Road Atlanta circuit.
