Watch 1000 Ducks Waddle To Work On Wine Farm | Wild-ish TV
  • 6 months ago
The sight of more than one thousand ducks marching through a vineyard is not the typical idyllic scene everyone associates with picturesque wineries. But at one South African farm, the huge flock of cute Indian runner ducks are helping to create better, pesticide free wine - and melt the hearts of visitors thanks to their daily parade. To prevent damage to the lucrative grape vines, farmers usually utilise pesticides to control bugs and insects that can gnaw their way through them. But thanks to the ducks’ penchant for eating small pests, Vergenoegd Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, has found a more novel use for their eating habits - natural pesticide. Each day, workers at the stunning farm set the ducks free from their pens to patrol the vineyards - eating their way through thousands of insects everyday. Their patrols help to prevent the need to use harmful chemicals on the crops - producing a more environmentally friendly wine.
