Israel declared a 'state of war' and launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip following a surprise rocket attack by Palestine's Hamas militants which claimed that it was only their "first strike". Israel prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video statement following the attacks that the country is at war. “We are at war and we will win” (Display on screen) he asserted, adding, “Our enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known”.
