Should you want to skip Free Rebel Commander, you won't have the subterranean APCs with light and rocket infantry, meaning you'll have to train your own infantry, meaning you'll need a couple more lasers to defend against near nonstop attacks.

After that, the strategy is similar to the one used to complete the mission WITH the rebel commander. Repair and cross the north bridge, uncover the temple with a bike or buggy, then destroy it with rocket-based units placed between the cliff and power plants.
