Wales headlines 23 March: Welsh freeports get green light

Two Welsh freeports will open this year after proposals in Milford Haven and Anglesey were given the green light. It’s hope this will create 20,000 jobs and £5 billion worth of investment. Freeports are aimed at trading goods with less red tape, and add to Wales’ import-export industry.

Plans for a council owned solar farm in Rhondda Cynon Taff are moving forward and the project could come to fruition in the next few years. It’s hoped the site will offset around 1500 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, and create a steady stream of income for the council through its minimum 35 year life cycle.

Data from the RNLI says that lifeboat launches across Wales rose by 8% in 2022 compared the the previous year, with the Mumbles site being the busiest in Wales. Crews were called out 1145 times last year, with motorboats in trouble being the most common reason.
