Aktuala — Aktuala 1973 (Italy, Folk/Fusion/Jazz Rock)

  • last year
The group was founded by the spouses Walter and Laura Maioli, who were fond of ancient and exotic musical instruments, they were joined by saxophonist Daniele Cavallanti, guitarist Antonio Cerantola and percussionist Lino Vaccina. The group lasted until 1976 and released three interesting records. Following the path of the English group "Third Ear Band", the musicians tried to mix together Western musical traditions with Afro-Asian instruments, rhythms, culture, the result was progressive rock in the classical sense of the word, but with a greater bias towards psychedelia and avant-garde. The group was formed in 1972 in Milan and released their first album on the Bla Bla label a year later. The band did not take part in the big outdoor festivals as was the custom at the time, preferring a different approach to their audience. Their sound is based on the use of unusual instruments, giving a very high originality, although the truth is not for all ears. After the release of the second record "La Terra" in 1974, the group left for Morocco and, after much experimentation, released the third album, "Tappeto Volante", one of the very first examples of "real world music" made in Italy. After the group broke up, Walter Maioli continued his research on the origins of instruments and musical traditions at Il Centro Del Suono, where he still works with his daughter Luce. one of the very first examples of "real world music" made in Italy.
