In 1990, Geneva White Galle alleged that her late husband, former Dallas policeman Roscoe White, was the real assassin of President John F. Kennedy. According to the theory, White was a member of a renegade intelligence organization that deemed Kennedy a national security threat, and decided to kill him as a way to prevent a potential nuclear war. Geneva also claimed that Jack Ruby—who later shot Lee Harvey Oswald, the supposed scapegoat in this scenario—was one of her husband's coconspirators. Working as a hostess at Ruby's Carousel Club at the time, Geneva alleged she overhead the pair plotting to kill the President one night in Ruby's office. Upon discovering her eavesdropping, the would-be assassins forced her to undergo shock therapy treatment to obliterate her memory. The theory emerged after members of the White family supposedly discovered a journal belonging to Roscoe in which he confessed to the act. (The journal remains unavailable for inspection, however. The White family claimed the FBI stole it, while the FBI categorically denied even seeing it.)
