Recently a panel of the world’s top biodiversity scientists convened to investigate links between pandemic risk and environmental degradation. Their just-released report asserts that we need to address the underlying causes of pandemics, which they say are also the causes of biodiversity loss and climate change. Was this understanding at all reflected in Budget 2021 or the reorganisation of the Parliamentary Select Committees in which the environment was dropped?
