Russia used its latest Kinzhal hypersonic missile in Ukraine for the first time on Friday to destroy an arsenal in the western part of the country, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The Kinzhal air missile system equipped with hypersonic aviation ballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and missile ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
The state-run RIA Novosti said it was the first time the Kinzhal hypersonic weapon was used during what Moscow called a "military special operation" in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia claims its soldiers have entered the center of the besieged port city of Mariupol, which has been shelled for days.
"The Donetsk People's Republic's forces, with the support of the Russian army" will also "squeeze the encirclement," the Defense Ministry said.
