The Governor of Makkah, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, has bathed the Kaaba with fragrant water of rose Zamzam as per the annual routine. The Governor of Makkah was accompanied by Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Head of the Haramain Administration, eminent scholars and key bearers of the Kaaba. This ritual is performed as a Sunnah. The ritual of Bathing of Baitullah has been performed in every era of Islam considering it as a Sunnah. It should be noted that the ritual of Ghusl of Kaaba was performed by Saudi Govt twice in the year, the first Sha'ban and then in Muharram. The basic purpose was to clean and wash the Kaba and make it prepared fresh for pilgrims coming in Ramadan and in new Islamic year after Hajj. But now Khana Kaba is cleaned or washed completely once a year.

Saudi Arabia introduced the ritual during the reign of King Abdulaziz. All his successors followed him. As I previously informed you that Kaba is washed as a Sunnah act. Kaba was a holy place before Islam also. When Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) Conquered the Mecca, he cleaned Kaba from idols present there. In this way, durst time Kaba was cleaned after Islamic era. So, thus holy place returned back to Sunnah of Ibrahim and Monotheism. In 620, Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W.) was forced to migrate to Medina due to behaviour of residents of Mecca. And just after 10 years of this migration, he Conquered Mecca and the hearts of its citizens. Now there was Islam in Mecca everywhere. When he went inside Kaba after Mecca Victory, he found Kaba full of idols and walls were written with shirk words. Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W.) and his followers removed all idols and cleaned its walls. This was the first inside cleaning of Khana kaba by Muslims.
