Spanish zoo apes accept rejected chimp

A cute baby chimp that was rejected by his mum gets to know its new family and surroundings at a popular Spanish zoo. Baby chimp Djibril has been accepted by the troop of chimps at Valencia Bioparc in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia. Djibril was born at the park’s sister zoo in Fuengirola, but was rejected by his mother Kika. Pepa Crespo from Valencia Bioparc told Newsflash that mum Kika was born in Africa and captured in the jungle before being used in a circus where the chimp was forced to pose for photos with visitors. After being rescued by the Civil Guard, Kika was transferred to Bioparc Fuengirola in the Spanish region of Malaga where she joined Napo, Djibril's father, and became pregnant. Crespo told Newsflash: “When they captured her, they killed her motherly instinct and mistreated her a lot. She was not used to interacting with other chimpanzees.”
