South Korea's central clinical committee says reconfirmed COVID-19 patients may have tested positive again due to test kits picking up dead virus fragments.
The committee said on Wednesday,... that traces of inactivated virus fragments can still exist in the cells of a recovered patient,... enabling them to be detected by test kits.
They said it's more likely that patients testing positive again is due to this reason... rather than "reactivation" or "reinfection."
The committee added that...antibodies are produced to neutralize viruses after an infection,... so the possibility of being reinfected is low.
As of Wednesday,... 292 people in South Korea have re-tested positive for COVID-19.
