In a confrontation billed as a battle between Frank Lampard and his old mentor Jose Mourinho, Chelsea picked up a fully deserved victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea's goals were scored by Olivier Giroud (15th minute) and Marcos Alonso (48th minute). Spurs scored a late consolation goal when Erik Lamela's shot deflected in off Antonio Rudiger in the 89th minute. Giovani lo Celso should have been sent off for a second-half challenge on Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The video assistant referee (VAR) decided against any punishment however they later admitted that they made a mistake and that he should have been sent-off.
