Chinese icebreaker sails into southern hemisphere on 36th Antarctic expedition

China’s first domestically made polar icebreaker, Xuelong II, has reportedly crossed the equator 10 days after setting sail from Shenzhen on the nation’s 36th Antarctic expedition. After meeting China’s first icebreaker, the Xuelong, the two “Snow Dragons” will embark on separate missions to the resource-rich continent for what has been described as the country’s most ambitious polar expedition.
