Manhattan's supertall skyscraper to open in 2020

NEW YORK — The One Vanderbilt tower is set to become the tallest office tower in Midtown, Manhattan with a height of 1,401 feet once it completes construction and opens in 2020.
The project is being helmed by American architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
The skyscraper will include a total of 1.7 million square feet of office space which spreads across 58 floors, according to the architectural firm's website. The building will consist of 42 elevators and 5 escalators.
The tower's exterior will be lined with a glass facade while the building's top part will be made of four interlocking volumes that rise towards the sky.
The overall shape of the tower is meant to complement the Empire State and Chrysler buildings in the area, according to Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
The skyscraper will include a 30,000 square-foot amenity floor complete with outdoor garden terraces as well as a dining area. A pedestrian plaza will also be added to the bottom of the skyscraper.
The architectural firm stated on its website that the building is aiming for LEED certification of sustainability as well as WELL certification for a building's health and well-being.
The company did not detail which sustainable features the tower would include.
