[In-depth] Japan Ramps up retaliation against S. Korea

한국에 대한 경제보복을 늘린 일본

It's time now for an in-depth look at the Japan trade situation with an expert on the subject, and for that, I'm joined by Dr. Yang Junsok, professor of economics at the Catholic University of Korea.
Dr. Yang, thank you for coming on today.
You're welcome.
Despite the best efforts of the South Korean government to try and stop this, Japan is going ahead and taking Korea off the white list. Take us back and explain why they ultimately decided to do this?
Now we've got the white list situation plus what happened about a month ago when Japan started restricting exports of those three key materials for semiconductors and displays. There are so many questions about what the practical effects of this will be for the companies concerned. How does it look going forward in terms of process and the related difficulties?
Between now and when Korea is actually taken off the white list, we have less than four weeks. What can the Korean government and industry do to get ready? What do they need to do?
Alright, Dr. Yang. We'll have to leave it there for today. Thanks so much for sharing your insights with us.
