This remote Japanese village has been abandoned for more than 20 years

The village of Nagatani in central Japan's Fukui Prefecture has been left untouched for over 20 years after residents abandoned the settlement due to plans to build a dam nearby.

Footage shows how nature has reclaimed the village as several buildings, including a shrine and temple, have seen their roofs collapse.

In 1966 there were plans to build a dam close to the village but the residents fought against this proposition to no avail.

Eventually, the villagers left one by one seeing Nagatani become a desolate settlement.
