U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says he expects to meet with his Chinese counterpart ahead of next week's G20 summit in Japan.
At a congressional hearing on Wednesday, Lighthizer said he will speak with Chinese vice premier Liu He over the phone and expects to meet with him along with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in Osaka before President Trump sits down with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.
Lighthizer said it's in the interest of both countries to have some kind of successful trade agreement.
Trade talks between Washington and Beijing broke down last month after U.S. officials accused China of backing away from commitments.
