A Dog’s Journey Home (E8) – From Hurt To Hope To Happiness

There is nothing like a Tracy’sDogs “Gotcha Day”. A truck filled with rescued and rehabilitated dogs travels from San Antonio, Texas to cities across the country for the emotional first meeting with their new families. In this episode of A Dog’s Journey Home, we are with Scott and Tracy in Darien, Illinois, where 45 dogs are about to have the greatest moment in their lives.
There is a lot of pent up tension when the truck door swings open and Scott takes a few minutes to address the gathering of anxious families to prepare them for their big moment. “Has anyone ever travelled across the country with small kids for two and a half days?” he asks with a smile. “I have 45 kids on that trailer and they’ve been in there for two and half days. They will be ready to go.”
Here are a few of the dogs you will see as they finally meet their new forever families:
Shasta – A Shephard mix with a sweet disposition
Edgar – A white dog with short legs and a long body who is finally going home after a long stay at the rescue
Smidge – A short haired pooch with a nubby tail who grew up from a pup at the rescue
Bristol – Fostered with Tracy when she was very sick and now going to a home with 2 other adopted dogs
Tracy has a way of perfectly capturing the emotion of the day and its connection to everything she does to save dogs. “It is such a good feeling to be able to take that dog, look into their face, and know that you will find them a good home,” she says. “Over a 30 day period you can look at a dog’s face and see it go from hurt, pain and no hope to smiling and happy. It’s hard to put into words.”
