President Moon due to leave Brunei for Malaysia as ASEAN trip continues

President Moon Jae-in has wrapped up his official duties in Brunei,... and is preparing to head to Malaysia in the coming hours, the second leg of his three-nation tour of the region.

During his three-day stay in Brunei,... President Moon Jae-in stressed how South Korea's relations with the country have steadily progressed over the years, since the two sides established diplomatic ties in 1984.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah threw his support behind President Moon's New Southern Policy that hopes to shore up economic and diplomatic relations between Seoul and the ten member states of ASEAN, including Brunei.
Acknowledging that both countries focus on improving people's lives,... President Moon and the Sultan agreed to work on measures that are reciprocal and complementary.
"Incorporating our administration's New Southern Policy that focuses on creating a community of people-centered peace and prosperity and Brunei's Vision 2035, I hope to expand our ties to future technology and new industries, while achieving mutual prosperity."
The leaders also agreed to start working on an LNG value chain that covers everything from gas mine development to transportation and sales.
They also promised to work together on renewable energy under the East Asia Summit Cooperation.
They agreed to promote bilateral ties in areas of intellectual property and amp up social exchanges.
With the curtain coming down on his stay in Brunei, President Moon will zero in on the economy in Malaysia.
The South Korean leader will attend a Hallyu and halal exhibition,... and hold summit talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad,... which will be followed by the signing of an MOU, and then a joint press conference.
South Korea's presidential office says the leaders hope to widen the scope of their bilateral relations,... including in the areas of information communication technology and artificial intelligence.
"Having secured promises of cooperation on multiple fronts, and having won full backing for his peace drive on the Korean Peninsula from a major player among ASEAN member nations, President Moon and an entourage of business leaders will head to Kuala Lumpur... where he will push for stronger economic ties with Malaysia.
